BIO

Jerry P. Gollub is Professor in the Natural Sciences and Professor of Physics at Haverford College. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a recipient of two national research awards from the American Physical Society. He was Co-Chair of the National Research Council study "Learning and Understanding: Improving Advanced Study of Mathematics and Science in U.S. High Schools", and has been a member of the NRC Commission on Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Applications. He has served on the Board of the National Science Resources Center. His research is concerned with nonlinear phenomena and fluid dynamics. He is coauthor of Chaotic Dynamics: An Introduction, an undergraduate textbook. Dr. Gollub teaches science courses designed for a broad audience, including "About Time", "Fluids in Nature", and "Predictability in Science." He has been Provost at Haverford, is Chair of the Educational Policy Committee, and is also affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Gollub is currently Vice-Chair of the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics. He is an Associate Editor of Physical Review Letters, and an invited columnist for Physics Today.
